Track racing requires some specialist skills and equipment. Fortunately we have a fine outdoor velodrome in Newcastle and access to both expert coaching and the use of specialist track bikes courtesy of our friends at the Newcastle Track Cycling Association, Click Here for the NTCA Website http://www.newcastletrack.co.uk/
Newcastle Track Cycling Association is made up of a group of Local Cycle Clubs and individuals who give up their time to help run the coaching and track league, and Lyme RC are very proud to be a part of NTCA to make the Newcastle Velodrome the great place that it is.
Lyme RC have our own track night at Newcastle Velodrome on a Wednesday for Novice to Expert starting at 6.30pm.
On Friday nights Lyme RC on behalf of NTCA run a GO-RIDE session on the grass and on the Velodrome for freewheel bikes and fixed wheel noivce.
For those who wish to experience the thrill of riding the track, bike hire is easily arranged for a nominal fee. Each week throughout the summer months we have many Lyme Racing Club members who regularly ride and race on the track.
Every Monday and Tuesday evening from late April right through to September there are training sessions which cater for the total novice through to the seasoned professional. Newcomers are always made welcome and given expert tuition to gain proficiency in the skills needed to ride safely in the environment of the velodrome.
The season long track league takes place on Thursday evenings and is preceded by the hugely popular Freewheelers League in which a great many of our junior members take part in and are able to ride upon their own bikes in a series of organised races on the track. In addition, our geographical position in relation to the National Cycling Centre at Manchester means that many of members and especially our younger members can regularly race during the winter months, safe from the effects of the unpredictable effects of the British weather.
Lyme RC as a GO-RIDE Club have regular sessions at Derby Velodrome in the Club Cluster sessions for 9 to 15 year olds. Information on Club Cluster Sessions at Derby Velodrome.
Should any of the above take your interest then why not come along and try it out for yourself. After all the great Olympian, Sir Chris Hoy, was once a newcomer to track cycling. Who knows, maybe you could be the next champion!
