Prestatyn 2017

just dipping a toe in the water!

On a wet and windy on Thursday 19th May 2016 Lyme Racing Club did their annual drive ride to North Wales starting out from Prestatyn.

I would like to propose a a date of either Wed 17th or Thu 18th May to do this ride again?

The meeting point would the railway station car park Nearby there is a retail park with a Costa Coffee should anyone need a drink or food pre-ride.

Hopefully Kenny Atherton will be able to join us if he can get time off

It would be a 70 mile circuit (3563 ft of climbing) riding along the coastal cycle route. Passing through Rhyl before a breakfast stop at Rhos. On to Colwyn Bay before Llandudno and the Great Orme then Conwy.

After Conwy is a sometimes steep and undulating ride up to Llanwrst for lunch. Following this is a fast(ish) descent to Abergele and the coastal cycle path back to Prestatyn and a pint. Spectacular scenery and a fairly challenging route.

I realise that the ride would only be 10 days after the Dougie Mac ride but it was only 5 days separating the two last year.

Hi Neil
I'm off work both of those dates so I would be up for this one. Don't mind which date.
One of my favourite rides.

as decisions have to be made we will call it 17th May then. Matt B and I will be travelling together so that could be at least 6 so far.

I'll be unavailable from 23rd Apr to 7th May (hols) but will have wi-fi so will be able to answer any questions which may crop up. Having said that its a 2 hour drive to Prestatyn, turn wheels at 10am, 5 hrs riding, 1.5 hrs for pit stops, so should get back to the car park by 16.30hrs.

Depending on numbers the plan is to take as few cars as possible but that will sort itself out as the date near's.

One thing I found out last year was that disc brakes don't like sand and there's plenty of that on the seaside cycle path.
